Religions: Christianity

Christianity is based on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, as written in the New Testament in the Bible, as well as the word in the Old Testament.

Christians believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and that He is devine and human at the same time. They believe that He is the Savior of mankind, as promised in the Old Testament, and they refer to Him as the Messiah.

Christianity is founded on the believe that Jesus suffered, died, was buried and resurrected from the dead to give eternal life to those that believe in Him and trust him to absolute them from their sins.

They believe that Jesus ascended bodily to heaven, where He rules with God, His Father.  They also believe that He will return to judge all of mankind, the living and the dead, and that He will grant eternal life to His followers.  He is seen as the model for a virtuous life, and His life, death and resurrection are referred to as The Gospel, which means Good News.

Christianity began as a Jewish faith in the middle of the 1st century.

This religion originally started in the Levant of the Middle East, but it quickly spread to Syria, Mesopotamia, Asia and Egypt.

It grew into a strong worldwide belief system over just a few centuries, that by the 4th century it became the official church of the Roman Empire.

The three largest groups in the world are the Roman Catholic Church, the Eastern Orthodox Church and the Protestant Church.

Christians have a set of beliefs that is important to their faith:

  • Death, descent into hell, the resurrection and ascent to heaven of Christ.

5.  Salvation

The God who raised Jesus from death, will also give new life to humans who lived a virtuous life.

6.  Trinity

The Trinity is the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.  God is believed as infinite and His precence is mirrored through Christ and the Holy Spirit.

7.  Scriptures

Christians regard the Bible as the inspired Word of God.  He worked through human authors to prevail what He wished to communicate.

8.  Eschaton
