Religions: The Roman Catholic Church

The Catholic Church is the largest Christian religion in the world ... with a membership of more than one billion people.

The hierachy is led by the Pope, and then follow the cardinals, patriarchs and diocesan bishops.

The Catholic Church claims that it is the one true Church, and was founded by Jesus Christ.

The Church further claims that its bishops are the successors of the Christ apostles, and that the Pope is the sole successor to Saint Peter, one of the apostles of Christ, and they believe that he has apostolitic primacy.

The Catholic social teaching emphasises support for the sick and the poor.  They work through corporal works of mercy ... and is the largest non-government body that provides medical and educational services in the world.

They divided the 'works of mercy' into 2 categories:

Corporal Works Of Mercy:

1.  Feed the hungry
2.  Give shelter to the homeless
3.  Give clothes to the naked
4.  Give drink to the thirsty
5.  Visit the sick
6.  Give ransom for the captive
7.  Bury the dead

Spritual Works Of Mercy

1.  Give guidance to the ignorant
2.  Give counsel to the doubtful
3.  Help sinners
4.  Patience with wrongdoings
5.  Forgive and forget
6.  Give comfort to those in need
7.  Pray for other people ... alive or dead.

The Catholic Church holds that there is one eternal God, whom hosts three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit ... and they make up the Holy Trinity.

The Church believe that Jesus Christ is the second person in the Trinity.

In an event, called Incarnation, God became united with human nature, through the power of the Holy Spirit ... through the conception of Christ in the womb of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Therefore is Christ divine as well as human ... and His mission on earth was to provide people with His teachings and example to follow.

The Church teaches that through the suffering and crucifixion of Christ, do all people have an opportunity for forgiveness and freedom from their sins ... and can then be reconciled with God.

The Resurrection of Christ made it possible for humans to have spiritual immortality, which was previously denied because of original sin.

By reconciling with God and following Christ's learnings and example, a person can enter the Kingdom of God with is the 'Reign of God over people's hearts and lives'.

The Greek term 'Christ' and the Hebrew term 'Messiah, which mean 'anointed one', refer to the Christian believe that the death and the resurrection of Christ is the fulfillment of the Prophecy of the Messiah, in the Old Testament.
