Feelings : Defining Emotions

When we think about our feelings we are prone to only think about the basic feeling like heartache, happiness, anger and fear.

What is important is that we must acknowledge those feelings that we don't think off.  We are usually not conscious where it comes from or what we must do with it:

What is a feeling?

define emotions, feelingsA feeling is an internal physical reaction on what you experience [stimuli].  A stimuli can be anything what you experience with your senses or what you think [making an interpretation] of just a thought that you had.

Feelings are always internal to your body. We carry our feelings over by means of physical reactions ... for example cry or laughter.  All emotions are forms of energy and it can also create energy. Love and anger both work up energy that makes you do certain things a certain way in that moment.

Feelings are consciously and subconsciously generated. The environment and the genetic compilation both play a role in the birth of emotions.

The better you understand your own feelings the better you will understand other people's feelings.  Remember:  you can only enjoy your feelings if you know them.  You can't enjoy feelings if you don't acknowledge the feelings you feeling.  Research shows that every time that we experience a feeling a chemical reactions takes place in our bodies.  This shows that emotion does not only happen in our heads, but influence the whole body. The fact that anxiety can harm our immune systems can be seen in this light.

What happens if we don't experience our feelings?

1.  If we don't experience our emotions it literally makes us sick! ... things like stomach ache, migraine, back pain, stiff neck, ulcers, chronic flu and sleeplessness.

2.  It can create compulsive behavior like smoke, alcohol and drug abuse, over work, over eat, obsessive exercise or meditation and so on.

Determine the source of your obsessive behavior and evaluate your feelings after you did something compulsive ... [for example.  does it make you feel better or worse?]

It is only through experiencing your feelings that you can rid yourself of your compulsive behavior which can negatively affect the quality of your life.

3.  It can cause that you say and do the wrong things at the wrong moment, or just do nothing when you were suppose to take action.

4.  You can be cut of emotionally and intellectually [always thinking of excuses for your behavior], or you can loose contact with reality.

It works like a steam kettle on a hot plate.  If the steam can't escape on a regular basis the lid will eventually blow off and the whole kitchen will be a mess.  Emotions under pressure do the same thing and can also grow into aggression and depression.

own.  Don't allow strong feelings to scare you away.

If you don't embrace it fully you will never learn what the feeling is or where it came from or how it was created.  You can also be prone to blame other people or yourself, or you can feel bad if you don't allow yourself to experience your feelings.

experience emotions, feelingsPeople who don't experience their own feelings blames other people for their own anger or convince themselves that their heartache and stress are something to be embarrass about.  This only wastes time and it only blur your senses. And if the difficult emotions are not experienced to the full extend, it can be twisted into something else.  In other words, anger becomes blame and heartache and fear becomes shame!

Accepting you feelings will show you that you can handle any feeling, never mind how intense it is.  Remember that humor and laughter helps you to accept any feeling that comes your way.
Acceptance makes it easier to laugh at your mistakes.  Laughter brings you into contact with your body, it's like exercise for your inner self.

You must also accept and enjoy positive feelings.  Can you enjoy feelings of sensuality, hope and love for more than a few minutes?  Allow yourself to enjoy the fuzzy feeling and let the intensity grow by inhaling deep and fully experience and enjoy it in your body.

The compensation of emotional acceptance is that you will reach higher grounds [positive feelings] and which will bring forth less and less intense low points and it will quicker be something of the past.

next : The Importance Of Emotions?

Every emotion is a wake-up call to show you something that you must attend to.  We can differ between positive and negative feelings, but it is important to remember that negative feelings are also of much worth to you because they bring unfulfilled needs to your attention.  It is important to acknowledge the negative feelings.

importance emotions, feelingsFeelings is suppose to get you to move, asking questions, and to get you into action when needed. The bigger your passion, the higher motivated you will be to do something about the situation.  So, strong emotions push you into action.

We consist of different stages of emotional energy, which are mirrored through our personalities [careful, relaxed, shy] and the pace for daily routine.

Emotions are contagious.  One depressed person in a family or at work can easily infect the rest of the family or fellow colleagues, and the atmosphere will quickly be loaded with negative feelings.  The more positive energy you have the stronger you are to fight this contamination.

The must be a balance between logic and emotions.

How does a feeling come to live?

The information that we collect through our senses [see, hear, smell, taste, touch] is interpreted in our previous experiences, our sense of worth, acceptances and so on.  Although not always consciously, we do have a choice of how we want to interpret the information and we can decide in what way and out of what perspective we choose to view the information.

When we think that it's the fault of other people or situations that we're in the situation that we are, we already gave away the control.

Example.  'You make me angry!' or 'It's because I'm jobless that I'm depressed'

This means that we need other people and things to generate the positive feelings that we're suppose to do ourselves.  This means that the same people and things will just as quick dump you into negative feelings.
